Doesn’t God talk to me?

2He replied,[a] “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

Matthew 6:2-4

The people in Jesus’ day said they wanted God to talk to them. They wanted a sign. They wanted to know what God had to say and they wanted God to say it.

They were upset that God didn’t speak out and tell them what to do.

Where was God?

Did they not see that God didn’t need anything other than what he had sent. He had sent the Old Testament full of prophecy. His word was right there.

And right in front of them, as plain as day was not only God’s messenger but God’s own precious son! Right there!

As plain as a red sky… HE WAS RIGHT THERE! And they couldn’t see it! Was it that they couldn’t, or they wouldn’t?

Where was God? Right in front of them. Right there. All they had to do was listen to Jesus. All they had to do was read the Scriptures. He was right there.

We want God to speak to us

Why doesn’t God speak? We need God to speak to us! We are frustrated because He doesn’t speak.

Where is God?

He’s right in front of us! He has given us His word. Not only in a book, but we can “Google”our own Bible with websites like www.biblegateway.com!

A scrap of a scripture verse can quickly become our whole lesson for the day! He is right here! The Holy Spirit is in our heart if we’ve asked Christ to be our Savior.

He’s right here! As plain as the book in our hand! He is there!

The times when I felt God wasn’t “talking” were the times I had to throw myself completely into His Word. His silence was for a reason and most often it was MY FAULT!

If you’re feeling like you don’t hear God, your instructions are RIGHT HERE!

“But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Deuteronomy 4:29

Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Get on your knees and ask for Him to reveal Himself to you. Open your Bible along with your Bible study. If you don’t have a Bible study, pick up your Sunday school lesson and use that, or start in Matthew.

If you’re having a specific problem, look up that word in the index in the back, write down all of the scriptures and then look them up.

  1. I must say that I am encouraged by your desire to pursue God and understand His Word through indepth Bible Study. I’ve experienced times of complete confusion as well, but I’ve always experienced peace and reassurance after reading the Bible. I recently found a resource online called
Bible Study Tools that I think you would enjoy. The reason I like it so much and want to share it with you is because I can read so many commentaries, 29 different translations/versions, lexicons, Greek and Hebrew, devotionals and more all for free. I could never afford these books nor would I have the time to search through all of them! I also like that I can highlight text and save notes. The screen is split-panel so it lets you compare versions, commentaries, etc. which makes it extremely easy to use. I hope you get a chance to check it out! It’s been a blessing for me and I want to let others know that they can find tools to understand the Bible without having to go to seminary! I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it has the ability to enlighten and impart wisdom, but it helps to have resources that dig deeper into the meaning behind certain words, parables, etc.
