We Confess Before Thee

As I have been studying about the topic of not being ashamed of the Gospel of Christ – I have been drawn to one of my old books on the shelves. A Man Called Peter by Catharine Marshall has been a book that has changed my walk and Christian life.

His prayers are inspirational as well as his sermons and inspire me to write. Below I have shared with you one of my recent poems.
Colossians 1:10 (New International Version)

10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

“We Confess Before Thee” Revisited

by Vicki Davis

Forgive me, sweet Jesus my Prince
for the things that make me ashamed in Thy Presence.

All the front we polish to see
such gloss and varnish do not deceive Thee.
For Thou knowest my thoughts and see
even a tiny resonance of shadowy memory.

Every motive of mine is seen clearly by Thee,
I cringe – exposed in my duplicity.
I acknowledge with bitter repentance, Lord
that in my thoughts I often toyed
with unclean and forbidden ways
that are not for me in these short days.

I know I have oft ignored blindly
of what is clearly my evident duty.
I confess my deafness to the whisper of Thy call
I wonder if I seek to follow Thee at all!

Make me willing to be renewed
by the conciliation of sin eschewed
by your therapy of discipline firm
to soften my heart and selfishness spurn.

I seek to receive Thy forgiveness sweet
and I attend your words as we part this meet
I hear Thy benediction as salve on sore
“Depart in peace and sin no more.”

Inspired by We Confess Before Thee a prayer delivered by US Senate Chaplain, Peter Marshall
